Proficiency Level 1
Basic Understanding

Describes IP services and basic applications in a telecom or enterprise network.

Lists common IP based hardware and software components.

Highlights the purpose of and common use of Access Control Lists and variable subnet masking.

Cites examples of common network problems and associated resolutions.

Proficiency Level 2
Working Experience

Works with MPLS on an LDP switched networks and/or MPLS based VPN’s/VRF’s. Describes the technical infrastructure of the various IP enabled edge services provided on AT&T’s IP network. Understands the purpose and function of traffic enhancing technologies such as WAN acceleration, load balancers, and proxies. Walks through the uses of application of Access Control Lists and IP security best practices.

Discusses operational issues and considerations for configuring and supporting voice and video networks. Explains tools for troubleshooting and resolving optical network problems.

Proficiency Level 3
Extensive Experience

Demonstrates experience with IP enabled edge services.

Coaches others on optimized IP based features and services.

Develops SMOP’s and executes change activity on network elements on production networks.

Effectively troubleshoots intermediate to complex inter-networking problems. Describes challenges and opportunities associated with integrating with multiple and diverse networks. Can integrate traffic enhancing technologies such as WAN acceleration, load balancers and proxies into an overall WAN/LAN architecture design. Explains issues and considerations associated with MPLS Fast Reroute and Traffic Engineering.

Proficiency Level 4
Subject Matter Expert

Shares extensive experience deploying and configuring Cisco, Juniper and ALU high-end routers and switches.

Participates on the operational team lead for interfacing with vendors and/or internal organizations.

Partners with ATS and Labs on developing best practices and contributes to technology changes or enhancements.

Plays a leadership role in establishing standards, policies, strategy and best practices.
